How hard is it? How expensive are alternatives? I’m considering it, but I don’t want it to require shopping only at health food stores, eating organic only etc. How accessible are gluten free foods?

It’s different, but it’s not hard. Just remember to read labels and educate yourself on what to look for. I shop at Kroger (big grocery chain) and they have good, inexpensive alternatives to what I liked to eat. Look forward to eating at home much more than eating, say, fast food because most restaurants aren’t properly educated on how to prepare gluten free foods, even if there are some on their menus.

seelessthanthree:

GF Raspberry Ale:
So far I think cider is the way to go when it comes to drinking gluten free. The gf beers I’ve tried are always just, well, gross.

Have you had better luck?

This is probably the best one I’ve tried, but yeah, it’s not that great. I usually just stick to ciders like Woodchuck and Magners.

glutenfreesammi:

I begged my doctor not force me to do a gluten challenge. Instead, she did a genetic test and found a celiac gene. Although that doesn't prove that I have gluten because 30% of the population has one of the two celiac genes, the EXTREME symptoms combined with the gene were enough. Oh and ANY amount of gluten will make my stomach go CRAZY. I noticed you mentioned that too. Anyway, just thought to say hello and best of luck!

Ohhh. I didn’t know that there was a difference between genetic testing and whatever other blood test there is.

i guess the whole point of getting the test would be to make sure I do have Celiacs and not something else? science, man. I’m just frustrated that this is such a difficult disease to navigate. If I had known about seeing the doctor before going gluten-free, I would have done so. Trust me. But this is four months later and I really don’t want to put my self through pain like that. And the face-breaking-out and the other stuff.

I think I’ll still call up the doctor and ask if I can skip the blood test and do the biopsy of the villi? I don’t know.

Again, this is frustrating! I thought I was going on the right path to find out that I’m probably doing everything wrong?!

I mean, RDChat was very very informative but now I’m like, “Am I putting myself in danger by JUST eating gluten free?”

SCORE!

Some gluten free drinks for me to try. My friend told me that this cider was very good. So I will probably try that first. I got the other just because I liked the name.

I picked these up at the new store up at Polaris called Earth Fare. It was pretty busy inside so I did not spend to much time there. But it’s nice to have another place to pick up snacks and such. (plus I am always at Costco spending way too much money)

I tried the Angry Orchard this past weekend. It’s like apple juice and ginger ale mixed together. I was looking for a ginger kick. But it’s pretty good.

I will stand in the rain until I am clean.: To all the lovely Celiacs out there considering transitioning to safe toiletries, cosmetics and household products:

I will stand in the rain until I am clean.: To all the lovely Celiacs out there considering transitioning to safe toiletries, cosmetics and household products::
redwoodislandtaketwo:

And on Wednesday I’m still waking up with acid reflux and a couple of other side effects. I’ve been cutting back on dairy to try to keep the AR at bay, as well as not drinking coffee. *hugs bottle of Tums*

This is enough to make me never want to touch gluten ever again. I do the grocery shopping, so I still have to buy bread for my parents and grandpa. Other than that, I buy as many naturally gluten-free items as possible. Stuff like fruits, veggies, yogurt.

Also, I always feel like I’m whining about these things. I don’t mean to! It’s just when I consume gluten, my body gets out of whack for a week. Ugh, it’s the poops.

oh-hello25:

So I feel like the majority of celiac and gluten intolerant people experience diarrhea, stomach pain, and weight loss.

Does anyone experience weight gain and constipation though? I do. And It sucks big time. When I eat gluten free I lose a ton of weight. But even the slightest bit of gluten will…

The only solution is to be 100% gluten free. When I get “backed up” I drink coffee or eat some greek yogurt, but that usually only happens after I’ve eaten something w/ gluten in it. This is just my personal experience though.

vanessaeatsclean:
